Lebron James is yet to confirm whether he will continue with Cleveland Cavaliers this summer or not. An injury last Sunday looked like he would be out of action for long time. With Cavaliers breaking ground to push through into a Championship final, James may look to extend his stay. A tweet by Joe Vardon, confirmed the sentiment, “LeBron just mentioned competing for a championship. Can’t remember the last time that happened!”
The win over Raptor’s on Monday night got them a postseason four-game sweep, for the second time in a row.
The result of all the drama after James injury is that Cleveland has themselves a place in the finals of the fourth straight season.
Cleveland in Turmoil
Cleveland revisited David Griffin’s release as the Chief Executive of the team, a decision made last summer. On another front, Kyrie Irving sought an expensive change.
At the opposing end, another plan was made to move Irving to Boston Celtics for Isaiah Thomas, Jae Crowder.
In addition, came Cavaliers topsy-turvy performance. Even without Thomas, they appeared to be playing well. However, with his return in January, the struggle was visible. Many players moved out as well, Thomas, Derrick Rose, Crowder, and Dwayne Wade. These happened as everyone attempted to complete the formalities for the regulators to remake the roster before the February deadline.
The mesh of changes has appeared to have had a positive impact on Cleveland. This could range from health issues which Kevin Love and George Hill had when they were playing Pacers. Both recovered well to takeover Raptors game on Monday.
The lineup was indeed interesting, and they proved to be a good collaborator at the game. The names included in this lineup are – Hill, Smith, James, Love and Kyle Korver. The brilliance of this list of players is that they can score against anyone in the league – be it Houston or Golden State, as the levels of the game begin to become more competitive. However, one issue appears to be Tristan Thompson’s abilities, as he continues to struggle with his game.
Cleveland is expected to play against Boston at the finals of the Eastern Conference. Despite the gravity of such the game, the team lineup will miss Irving and Gordon Hayward. It does appear that there may not be much of a fight by the Celtics, despite some success across the season.
Cavaliers likely for Finals
On the assumption that the Celtics will not be great form and fail to make the break into the finals, there is a likely chance for Cavaliers to stake a claim in the final.
When that happens, it will be the fourth straight final game for Cavaliers and the same number of times for James as well. Strange indeed are the ways of this game, given that even nine days ago, it was not even a remote possibility for James and team.
James short break to recuperate appears to suffice for him to head back to his positionless play at his favorite Eastern Conference Final, the eight-time, if records are right!
